If you own a Samsung TV you may find you are suddenly being blocked from watching content on iPlayer. Some of these hugely popular TV sets have been hit by an annoying software glitch which has blocked access to the BBC’s streaming service.
Samsung has issued a statement, explaining that the problem has been caused by security certificates that expired.
The Korean firm has pushed out an update to some of its TVs but many customers will have to wait until early next year to receive the upgrade to get BBC iPlayer back up-and-running.
According to the BBC, they expect thousands of screens to be unable to use its catch-up service over Christmas as a consequence of the glitch – leaving festive viewers unable to tune-in to some of the most-see scheduling, including the Gavin and Stacey Christmas reunion, return of Doctor Who, and ever-popular Eastenders Christmas special – unless they tune-in when the shows air live.
Speaking about the issue, a spokesperson for the BBC said: “Samsung tell us they are working hard to address the problem with their firmware and any viewers who are experiencing difficulty watching iPlayer on Samsung TVs should contact the manufacturer to get it fixed.”
