Free calls and data as Safaricom turns 20

Telecommunication giant Safaricom has announced to give away free calls and data for its loyal customers at its Safaricom 20 birthday celebrations at the Serena Hotel, Nairobi.

Safaricom which enjoys about 35 million subscribers in Kenya said all its customers will be enjoying free calls of up to 20 minutes within the next 30 days as they celebrate 20 years of service.

Ndegwa said, “Each customer will receive a notification a day before to alert them of their free calls. Customers who have been on the Safaricom network for 20 years, as well as customers turning 20 this year, will also receive a free 20GB data bundle valid for 7 days.”

The 20 free calls minute offer is a gift from Safaricom which is celebrating 20 years since its establishment in Kenya in 2000.

Customers also turning 20 years and those who have been subscribers for 20 years will receive 20 GB of free data and free calls valid for seven days.

“Starting tomorrow (from October 28, 2020), for one million customers every day, their first free calls of the day is going to be on Safaricom up to 20 minutes … Safaricom is not going to charge you,” Safaricom Chief Customer Officer Sylvia Mulinge.

She said Safaricom customers would receive a notification of their free calls. “We will do this for the next 30 days or so until we cover the entire base of 30 million-plus customers,” she said.

Mulinge also said that a promotion dubbed 20@20 will enable customers to purchase 20 minutes of call time and 20 megabytes (MBs) at KSh20. For the next 90 days, customers purchasing personalized Tunukiwa voice offers will also receive free calls for 20 minutes to call across all networks.This free calls Is a way to appreciate their customers.

Lucky customers who also visited their shops were lucky to be awarded free giveaways as a small token of appreciation on their birthday.

Safaricom launched a new campaign ‘Twende Tukiuke’ which urges everyone to push and go beyond what is possible.

At the event, the telco also announced the commitment to cover the whole of the country with 4G internet by December 2020.
