SEACOM and IOX to connect Mauritius and World with USD 150M Submarine cable

IOX CABLE Ltd, a subsidiary of INDOI LTD, has announced a partnership with SEACOM to build an undersea cable connecting Mauritius, an Indian Ocean island nation, to the rest of Africa.

The cable system, called IOX Cable System, will cost US$150 million project and will be the first open access cable system in Mauritius, open to all licensed operators.

“The cable will enable African and Indian business communities to connect seamlessly across a fast and reliable digital infrastructure, ranging from undersea cable to data centres and cloud platforms,” it said.

IOX Cable System will be designed in such a way that it can easily connect to future undersea cables on the east coast of Africa.

The cable will enable the African and Indian business communities to connect seamlessly across a fast and reliable digital infrastructure, ranging from undersea cable to data centres and cloud platforms.

Also, it will enhance the broadband infrastructure in Mauritius, in turn supporting and driving new digital economic models.

Once the cable is completed by the first quarter of 2019, it is expected to reinforce Mauritius’s status as an emerging innovation and technology hub in sub-Saharan Africa.

Seacom owns the most extensive ICT data infrastructure, comprising multiple subsea cables and a resilient, continent-wide IP-MPLS network, which provides flexible and scalable communications services.
