One on One with Sendy Ltd: Using Technology to bring efficiency in business

Think back to how business was done a few decades ago. There was no email, Internet, mobile marketing, telecommuting or smartphones. Innovations in technology have improved operations at companies of all sizes.

ITBusinessDirect spoke with Sendy Ltd, a tech platform in Kenya that connects businesses to Drivers to make delivery simple and transparent, on the tech ecosystem in Kenya. The session is majorly on the digital innovation trends and the set backs faced by Tech start ups in the industry.

Question: Its true that Technology brings businesses closer to customers. How can you define the technology sector in Kenya?

Sendy Ltd.: There is a need for more efficiency throughout Kenya in business. Technology can help to bring that efficiency. As more people understand and experience the value technology offers, the more it will grow.

Question: Can you walk us through how Sendy Ltd. works?

Sendy Ltd: Sendy is a tech platform that connects businesses to Drivers to make delivery simple and transparent. Through our application and web platform, customers are able to place orders and get Drivers on demand. You can move packages of any size by ordering different size vehicles that suit your delivery needs.

Question: What is the most rewarding and challenging part of making deliveries in Kenya?

Sendy Ltd: The most rewarding part of what we do is building partnerships that move the economy forward in Kenya that are not only making delivery simple, accessible, and affordable to everyone but is also helping Drivers by providing another source of income for them.

The most challenging part of what we do is working with the infrastructure in Kenya such as poor roads, and lack of addresses. Another challenge we face is working in industries that do not yet understand the value of a tech platform.

Question: What are the challenges of scaling to penetrate more market segments especially within East Africa?

Sendy Ltd:

– Mobile network coverage and cell phone penetration

– Behavior of using apps to increase efficiency

– Country barriers (new licenses, currencies, entities, etc)

– Building two sided markets in each city

Question: Are the tertiary academic institutions accommodating the industry personnel deficits?

Sendy Ltd: Sendy is fortunate enough to have a strong team both in the office and on the roads. We recruit top talent from across the country and are proud to be an entirely local Kenyan company.

Question: What advice would you give to future Tech-preneurs?

Sendy Ltd: Build to compete on the global market.

Benchmark against the best players in the world and then work harder, faster, and with more focus. It’s not easy, but at the very least, it’s a rollercoaster.
